hey! so i just realized that i have like no newborn size clothes and maybe two clothing items 0-3 mo size. i know they grow out of newborn fast. I am seeing newborn says up to 10 lbs. i am thinking i will just buy a very few newborn size pjs and outfits to get by - maybe like 7 pjs and 2 outfits? also, the smallest onesies i have are gerber brand 0-3 mo size - they look small - do I also need a few of those onesies in newborn size for the beginning? sorry, I dont want to be wasteful but want to have what we need. FTM. thanks!

I used newborn clothes for the first month or so with both of my boys, and then had to move them to 0-3 months. I used jammies and white Gerber onesies, but since we didn’t really leave the house too often, l didn’t worry about newborn “outfits”. They lived in jammies and onesies all the time until they went up to the next size. If I remember correctly, I had about 7-10 jammies and about 5-10 white onesies. I’m sorry this isn’t much help as far as how many items to get. Hopefully it helps a little.

@mama_cpbradley,
I agree. my baby wore only onesies. have about 10 on hand, and preferably with the mittens attached. you can buy 1 or 2 outfits of you want. he was 6.11 when he was born and in NB for about a month.

They grow out of NB sizes too quickly. 0-3 mos is best

a few newborn outfits is good. My first son I didn’t have any and all the 0-3 months was way to big on him.

I had the opposite experience! My son was in newborn for the first almost six weeks (not a premie or anything! He weighed 6lbs 9oz at birth and gained well!) and I listened to everyone and had barely any newborn stuff.... I had to do laundry like 3-5x a week because he would go through multiple outfits/sleepers/onesies in a day, and I had to go out and buy more newborn stuff, it was a pain! I’d say have a good little stock of basics (onsies, sleepers, etc. outfits aren’t important to everyone so that’s your preference) because if you don’t have any it’s such a pain if you need them! But if you’re concerned about spending the money, you can always wait. It’s just been my experience that I’d rather have them, because the 0-3mo stuff was so so big it wasn’t even plausible for him to wear!

I think grabbing sleepers in newborn and a few cute outfits for outings and when people come over will be perfect. I’ve heard some babies stay in newborn for 2 weeks or up to a month. You wouldn’t want your babe to be swimming in clothes that are too big.

My daughter was 6.9 at birth and in newborn for almost 3 mo (she also fit premie), in 0-3 mo for about 3 weeks- it was the size she was out of quickest, and then in 3-6 mo for another few months. Every kid grows differently.
She could fit 0-3 in length after about a month but the bagginess had her swimming in it and I was concerned about it covering her face, so we didn’t move up for quite some time.

All of my 0-3 mo clothes are from gap and say 7-12lbs. My first was over 9lbs and did not fit in NB so I skipped this time.

@fern33,
Same here, with my first 2, I mostly bought baby gap 0-3 months because one size down was a premie which was up to 7lbs. I didn't even consider buying those. My oldest was 3 days late and was 6lbs 15oz and second was 8lbs 3oz. This time around I bought a few newborn outfits from different stores and 0-3 again from baby gap.

I feel like it depends on the brand. Some Nb and 0-3 month are the same size and some are smaller...for example, Walmart’s garanimal brand runs big and I think targets brand are pretty close to size so maybe just get a few outfits from different places of both sizes.

They have 4 for $10 onesies at Target and sometimes by one pack get one half off. But I’d ask around to see if anyone is dying to unload some of those sizes. There are way more newborn clothes than newborns to fit in them. Lol.

My first was just under 10lbs so barely wore newborn clothes... 2 weeks maybe max and depended on brand. His newborn coming home outfit, he had to be squeezed into it! Haha he was in 0-3 size for much longer so it can all depend on size of baby. I wouldn’t stock up on a lot of newborn personally.

Insights, advice, suggestions, feedback and comments from experts
Based on the provided text, the user is seeking advice on what size of clothes to buy for their newborn baby. They are specifically asking whether they should buy newborn size or 0-3 months size clothes. To provide accurate information, I will refer to search results.
According to the search results, the general consensus among parents is that newborn babies tend to outgrow newborn size clothes quickly. Many parents recommend having a few newborn size clothes on hand, but not to invest heavily in this size. Instead, it is suggested to focus on 0-3 months size clothes, as babies can wear them for a longer period.
One user mentioned that their baby wore newborn clothes for the first month or so before transitioning to 0-3 months size clothes [[1]]. Another user shared their experience of their baby being in newborn size for almost six weeks before moving to 0-3 months size [[2]]. However, it is important to note that every baby is different, and growth rates can vary.
Considering the advice from experienced parents, it would be wise to have a small number of newborn size clothes, such as 7 pajamas and 2 outfits, as mentioned by the user. Additionally, having around 10 onesies in newborn size, preferably with attached mittens, is recommended [[3]]. This will ensure that you have some clothes that fit your baby comfortably during the early weeks.
In summary, while it is advisable to have a few newborn size clothes, it is generally recommended to focus on 0-3 months size clothes as babies tend to outgrow newborn sizes quickly. It is always a good idea to have a variety of sizes on hand to accommodate your baby's growth.
